Good Bye Outlook, Mcafee, Norton…hello Windows LIVE

by David ET on Feb.14, 2007, under Uncategorized

After few months of successful testing the new WINDOWS LIVE MAIL DESKTOP , today’s crash of my outlook was enough reason to switch and reconciled all my email accounts to the windows live mail. The advatanges are that is looks similar to outlook. I can view all email accounts in one program and in one shot and it is webbased, therefore the data can be accessed from any place. Oh and its FREE, at least while is in Beta phase !

Same goes with the anti-virus programs. McAfee, Norton etc always seem to try to catch up with windows changes and virus potentials, so why not use the new microsoft’s own antivirus which works within windows program and it costs less too. I have been very happy with WINDOWS LIVE ONECARE.

I know that this helps Microsoft monopoly but if they provide better product to the consumer than others then its the competition that has to catch up or suffer not the consumer. (not that outlook is not microsoft’s)

International Laws excluding minors from death penalty

by David ET on Feb.14, 2007, under Uncategorized

Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (adopted in 1966)
“Sentence of death shall not be imposed for crimes committed by persons below eighteen years of age. . .” (Article 6(5))

Convention on the Rights of the Child (adopted in 1989)
“Neither capital punishment nor life imprisonment without possibility of release shall be imposed for offences committed by persons below eighteen years of age. . .” (Article 37(a))

Mary Robinson, then United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, August 2002:
“The overwhelming international consensus that the death penalty should not apply to juvenile offenders stems from the recognition that young persons, because of their immaturity, may not fully comprehend the consequences of their actions and should therefore benefit from less severe sanctions than adults. More importantly, it reflects the firm belief that young persons are more susceptible to change, and thus have a greater potential for rehabilitation than adults.”

Philip Alston,, UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions - Dec. 9, 2006 :
“At a time when virtually every other country in the world has firmly and clearly renounced the execution of people for crimes they committed as children, the Iranian approach is particularly unacceptable … It is all the more surprising because the obligation to refrain from such executions is not only clear and
incontrovertible, but the Government of Iran has itself stated that it will
cease this practice.”

Two Iranian actors try to help Delara Darabi

by David ET on Feb.14, 2007, under Uncategorized

Yesterday two famous Iranian actors visited the family of the murdered victim in Delara Darabi’s case and talked to them for many hours. The two actors are the main stars in an Iranian TV series which is about a man who is accused of murder of his wife while his parents attempt to get the satisfaction of victim’s parents. Under the laws of Islamic regime if the family of the victim forgives the accused or accepts retribution the verdict can be changed.

Delara has denied the accusation of murder and said that her boyfriend did it. She had testified that she had no knowledge of his intentions. However, she has been sentenced to death by the highest court of Islamic Regime in Iran.
Delara’s attorney Mr. Khoramshahi thanked the Iranian actor Parviz Parastoui and actress Fatima Motamed-Arya for their attempt. He also said that he greatly thanks everyone who is trying to save Delara. He said that I believe Delara is innocent and she had no role in the murder of Mahin (victim). He added that there are obvious reasons to prove that Delara is not guilty, one of the reasons being that Delara is left handed.

Mr. Khoramshahi said that Delara’s is now suffering from extreme physical and mental illness. He added that the supreme courts final verdict has not yet been submitted to him but he will appeal it.

The campaign to stop the Islamic regime in iran to permanently abolish execution of minors in accordance with Iran’s international obligations is gaining more support in Iran and worldwide. Even majority of people who support death penalty for adults do not condone execution of those who have been alleged of a crime as minor.  The international humanitarian support has been from people of all different ages, nationalities, religions and political affiliations.

Leader of Australian democrats asks for stop to execution of minors in Iran

by David ET on Feb.14, 2007, under Uncategorized

PARLIAMENT OF AUSTRALIA .THE SENATE
SENATOR LYN ALLISON
Leader, Australian Democrats
Senator for Victoria

12 February 2007

His Excellency Dr Hamid Aboutalebi
Ambassador of The Islamic Republic of Iran to Australia
25 Colgoa St.
O’Malley ACT 2606
ambassador@iranembassy.org.au

Dear Your Excellency Dr Aboutalebi

URGENT – children on death row

It has come to my attention that there are 24 children ranging from the ages of 15 to 17 on death row in Iran and that this contravenes the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Charter of the Rights of the Child, which forbid the execution of anyone under the age of 18, to which Iran is a signatory.

Of particular concern is the case of Miss Delara Darabi who, I understand, has been wrongly convicted of murder and faces imminent execution by public hanging. I urge you to make immediate representations to your government for a stay in proceedings in this, and other cases where children are on death row.

Yours sincerely

Senator Lyn Allison
Leader, Australian Democrats

******************

Yesterday, the leader of the Australian democrats, Senator Lyn Allison sent an official letter to the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Australia expressing her concern about the fate of Delara Darabi and other minors facing execution in Iran.

Senator Lyn Allison’s concern and her noble letter to the Iranian Authorities is greatly apprecaited. Her letter was the result of teh efforts by my dear Australian friend and musician Donna Greene.
