Iranian mother and 2 children, 6 months in Moscow airport. Where is humanity? Where is UN?

Another one of the great achievements of the Islamic Regime in Iran :
“How can I help Delara Darabi?” (1)
by David ET on Feb.17, 2007, under Uncategorized
Here are suggestions for how to write officials in the UN, EU or your government about Delara Darabi. The addresses you can send the letters to are listed at the bottom.
- Give a short summary of Delara Darabi’s case and why you are writing.
- Ask them to contact the Iranian government and demand that Delara’s death
sentence is commuted immediately.
- Ask them to point out that reports are saying that Delara has retracted her
confession and has explained that she only confessed to save her boyfriend from
a death sentence, believing she could not be executed since she was a minor.
Reports are saying Delara’s initial confession was the basis for her sentence.
- Tell them that you are extremely concerned about her health and her conditions
in the prison, as she tried to take her own life at January 20, and her mother has
told that she is severely depressed and only weight 35 kilos. Ask that they urge
the Iranian authorities to take steps to better her conditions at once.
- Ask the organization you are writing to point out to Iran’s government that
Delara was only 17 years old when the crime she is sentenced for happened.
According to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which
Iran is a signatory, they have undertaken not to impose death sentences for
crimes committed by persons below 18 years of age.
- Tell that according to Amnesty International there are at least 22 other youths
sentenced to death for crimes committed before they turned 18
(full list here: http://web.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGMDE130022007).
Together with Pakistan Iran was the only country that still executed minors in
2006.
- Ask them to call on the Iranian authorities to implement the recommendations of
the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, which called on Iran in
January 2005 to “immediately suspend the execution of all death penalties
imposed on persons for having committed a crime before the age of 18, and to
abolish the death penalty as a sentence imposed on persons for having committed
crimes before the age of 18, as required by article 37 of the Convention”.

..

Yesterday Delara Darabi’s attorney was served with the official decree of the execution sentence of Delara issued by the Supreme Court of Islamic Regime in Iran.
Mr. Khoramshahi stated that he will exercise any remaining legal options to prove Delara’s innocence in order to prevent her death sentence.
With this official decree, death sentence of Delara has become more of a reality…
One more letter that was sent to help save Nazanin!
by David ET on Feb.16, 2007, under Uncategorized

Although old news but I just came across a letter that was sent to the UN secretary general asking him to help free Nazanin, on January 10th, by Farah Pahlavi the former queen of Iran. Since we have posted most info Nazanin here, it was only fair to also add this to our archives.: Here is the letter in PDF format.
How to access blocked internet sites in Iran
by David ET on Feb.16, 2007, under Uncategorized
According to Islamic regime in Iran own report, access to 10 million websites (including myspace) have been blocked in Iran. Here is the info about the ways to access the blocked sites:
VOICE OF AMERICA SUGGESTIONS: Voice of America Television (Persian language programing) had an one hour interview with am Iranian computer expert on how to overcome the internet censorship in Iran. Infortunately the regime in Iran is also blocking many of the internet proxy therefore the bext suggested approach is to use PSIPHON which is a downloadable. The interview has much valuable information. It is most important that your IP address in Iran is not showing (Do not use emails such as yahoo as it will show the ip. GMAIL is OK) . Here is the interview (in persian) : http://www.voanews.com/real/voa/nenaf/pers/pers1730vbTHU.ram
ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS :
As Iranian officials use ‘free speech’ to justify spreading anti-Semitic hate propaganda, their government restricts its population’s access to information, especially information by political critics—however, you can help stop this. If you want to liberate the imprisoned voice of moderate Iran, then help promote Psiphon, a new application that can allow people in free countries to provide Iranians with safe access to information and the ability to speak out.
Psiphon is a human rights software project developed by Citizen Lab at the Munk Centre for International Studies. It allows citizens in uncensored countries to provide unfettered access to the Internet through their home computers to friends and family members who live behind firewalls of states that censor.
By promoting this application among the Iranian community, by providing Internet access to Iranians, or by setting up a server, you can help liberate the diverse voice of Iran–and one that does not represent the racist opinions of their current government. Do what you can to promote this technology.
Visit the website, learn more, and spread the word:http://psiphon.civisec.org
tor.eff.org Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. It also enables software developers to create new communication tools with built-in privacy features. Tor provides the foundation for a range of applications that allow organizations and individuals to share information over public networks without compromising their privacy.
Journalists use Tor to communicate more safely with whistleblowers and dissidents. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) use Tor to allow their workers to connect to their home website while they’re in a foreign country, without notifying everybody nearby that they’re working with that organization.Tor also makes it possible for users to hide their locations while offering various kinds of services, such as web publishing or an instant messaging server. Using Tor “rendezvous points,” other Tor users can connect to these hidden services, each without knowing the other’s network identity. This hidden service functionality could allow Tor users to set up a website where people publish material without worrying about censorship. Nobody would be able to determine who was offering the site, and nobody who offered the site would know who was posting to it.
