Halo status !

by David ET on Jun.08, 2009, under Uncategorized

ASSOCIATED PRESS:

……On Monday, reformists launched their latest barrage: distributing a video of Ahmadinejad claiming a “light” surrounded him during a U.N. address in 2005.

In the clip, sent out e-mail and on CDs, Ahmadinejad tells a top cleric, Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli, that a “light” enveloped him during his address to the U.N. General Assembly and that the crowd stared without blinking during the entire speech.

The clip was released after Ahmadinejad on Saturday denied making the comment.

“Have you seen a halo in your addresses?” former vice president, Mohammad Ali Abtahi, asked Karroubi during a documentary shown on state TV last week.

“Only certain people can see that. I don’t have this spiritual status,” Karroubi replied.

Karoobi holding the winning card in Iran elections

by David ET on Jun.08, 2009, under Uncategorized

In his Sunday presidential debate with the other moderate candidate Mousavi, his rival Karoobi said that after his failure in the last presidential election, he decided to form a political party with the goal of running for the office of the presidency again. He added that he did this because of the danger that he saw in the rule of Ahmadinejad and his group. All the polls at this time show that Karoobi is in distant third and the election will be won by either Ahmadinejad or Mousavi or will be extended to the run-off election between the two if neither obtains the required 50% vote.

But the key comment that many observers seemed to have overlooked from Karoobi’s debate was that he stated that he was happy to see Mousavi run  or the pressures on each camp by Ahmadinejad would have been much greater. This also may have been a signal that he may make a last minute surprise move!

Despite his previous insistence that he would continue his campaign, if after the scheduled debates Karoobi in a press conference states that in order to save the country from “the danger” that it is facing he will be pulling out of the race and extending his support to Mousavi, not only this will substantially increases the chance of Mousavi’s win in the elections but by presenting the winning card, it will give Karoobi a chance to earn much respect among moderates and Iranians as well as guarantees him a key position in Mousavi’s government. However if he does continue and Mousavi loses, Karoobi will go down in history as a spoiler and that would be the end of his political career as an elected official.

On the other hand the Karoobi surprise will not give Ahmadinejad much of a chance to do much in the last few days before the elections. The views of the other extremist candidate, Rezaii, are too different from Ahmadinejad for him to join Ahmadinejad camp in return.

Americans in November of last year overwhelmingly voted against extremist camp of Bush-McCain and voted for a moderate peace seeking president Obama. This week Lebanese voters also voted against Iran funded Hezbollah extremists for more democratic candidates. http://middleeast.about.com/b/2009/06/07/stunner-in-lebanon-sunni-christian-coalition-wins-hezbollah-fails.htm

Will Iranians will be the next to symbolically reject extremism in their country, which for now is shaped in their loud president Ahmadinejad and his closet supporter and supreme leader Khamenei?

Karoobi can gurantee the answer if he choses to.
