Camp Ashraf: Iraq’s war heroes deserve better treatment

Masoud Rajavi

There are so many unknowns about Camp Ashraf situation and is not easy to determine who is the real cause the recent escalations .

First and foremost any killing and violation of human rights of anyone including those within Camp Ashraf are absolutely unjustified. Whether recently by Iraqi Government or through the years by the MEK cult leaders. But question remains why the residents resisted. The control of Camp Ashraf was turned to Iraqi’s by US with the condition that the residents will not be forced to return to Iran and Iraqi government has not stated such intention either.

Based on the information available so far these are the ones ultimately responsible for the unfortunate situation in Camp Ahsraf :

1 - Islamic Regime for creating an atmosphere of intolerance and oppression ever since the early years of its inception instead of democratic opportunities for freedom of expression , assembly and political parties which lead to extremism by some of the opposition including Mujahedeen Khalgh and also for their constant pressure on Iraq government to hand in the MEK members.

2 - Leaders of The Mujahedeen Khalgh Cult for having brought their followers to Iraq, for their cult like leadership and treatments of the camp residents and also for recent encouragement of the camp residents to resist control by Iraqi’s

3 - Those camp residents who entered the foreign soil to fight with Iran, treasonous to their own nation during the Iraq-Iran war which led to their current misfortunate destiny.

4- Saddam Hossein for allowing these people on Iraqi soil

5- United Nations for not effectively addressing the fate of the Camp Ashraf residents

6- Iraqi government for any use of violence against unarmed people

It should be stated that these people have lived in Iraq for more than 20 years and most of them were officially allowed in by Iraqi government and therefore first and foremost they do remain as responsibility of Iraqi government . At the same time they live on Iraqi soil and it is absolutely irresponsible of MEK leaders to insist on not allowing Iraqi’s to be in charge of part of their own territory. They had known of this legal right of the host country since the day they chose to enter Iraq to fight their own.

Regardless of what has lead to the current situation

1- United Nations must immediately take a more active role (without involvement of MEK leaders)

2- They should not be forced to go to Iran except by their own wish

3- They should individually or in groups be allowed to go to any country that they are allowed in to.  Legal facilitations must be made for the individuals who wish to obtain foreign visas subject to approval of the new host country.

4- They should also individually and privately be offered residence in Iraq away from the cult if they so desire. They should be offered refuge or permanent resident status by Iraqi government. After all they helped Iraqi army in their war with Iran, especially during the 2nd phase of war when Khomeini had become the attacker with the goal of reaching Karbala. In a way some are Iraq’s war heroes!

5- THE INDIVIDUALS SHOULD BE PROVIDED FULL ACCESS TO OUTSIDE WORLD COMMUNICATIONS AND AWAY FROM WATCHFUL EYES OF CULT LEADERS IF THEY DESIRE AND TO BE ASSURED THAT THEY ARE NOT UNDER ANY PRESSURE OR UNDUE INFLUENCE FROM CULT LEADERS.

6- The causes of recent deaths and escalations should be reviewed and addressed according to the law and those responsible should be brought to justice.

7- MOST IMPORTANTLY, IRAQI GOVERNMENT AND UN MUST CEASE ANY NEGOTIATION WITH LEADERS OF MEK AND TREAT EACH CULT MEMBER INDIVIDUALLY, CONFIDENTIALLY AND BASED ON THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL WISHES AND NEEDS .

Coming soon: Saving Khamenei, Dumping Ahmadinejad?

by David ET on Jul.28, 2009, under Uncategorized

Beware of the possibility of the policy shift to save Khamenei, Velayat faghih (supreme leadership) and Islamic Republic by dumping Ahmadinejad. In fact he may not make it through the month of August.

Pro Ahmadinejad sites as well as Islamic Republic’s Television have already started the “dump the Ahmadinejad” process. There are behind the scene “save the face” maneuvers that are in the works.

Ahmadinejad is the product of the system of the Islamic Republic and its supreme leadership. Ayatollah Khamenei as the head of all armed forces is directly responsible for all the human rights violations and deaths that were caused after the coup and his speech and ultimatums during the Friday Prayer in June. All others responsible should also be brought to justice.
There is no doubt that this will be a retreat by the regime SOLELY because of people’s movement but the question is at least will those responsible for the coup and bloodshed be held responsible? This regime is good at sacrificing its goats through the past 30 years (e.g.: President Banisadr, Ghotbzadeh, Yazdi,…. all the way to the current reformists) in order to maintain itself.

This is no longer about election but it is about violations of people’s basic human and civil rights and murders and injuries in the past month.
Khamenei is directly responsible for the death of Neda’s and Sohrab’s and …and….. with his fatwas (religious orders) approving repression and not even once saying a word about those who were beating and killing people in the streets in plain clothes because he was the one who released their leashes (himself).

Khamenei’s recent order of closure of one detention center is just an attempt to distract from real issue and TO SAVE FACE as if the problem was in Kahrizak prison only and no other prisons or the imprisonments in general.  Also most of the 140 released are freed on very large bails and can be taken anytime. (e.g.: Children rights attorney Mostafaei released on 100,000 USD bail, Human rights attorney Shadi Sadr released today on 50,000 USD )

Indeed this will be and is a retreat and as the result of people’s insistence and struggles but the answer to watch for is: What will come out of it? Ahmadinejad is only the product and implementer. Sacrificing (The Supreme Leader and regime’s) puppet presidents has not achieved anything in the past 30 years.

I repeat: Khamenei is the head of all forces and therefore DIRECTLY responsible for all the bloodshed and he must be brought to justice and that should be the minimum demand.

If bunch of Shia Grand Ayatollahs are also considering moving from Qom in Iran to Najaf in Iraq is not necessarily because they opposed all this but because they are afraid of the day that they will have to answer in courts to Iranian people.

Latest supporting news:

Fundamentalist MP says parliament is considering a vote of incompetence for Ahmadinejad:http://salaamnews.ir/…
Several state-owned media outlets, mainly Ansar News, IRIB, PressTV and Keyhan have recently started to criticize Ahmadinejad rather harshly.
Sacked Intelligence Minister Ejaie has sent a letter to Khamenei criticizing Ahmadinejad rather harshly.

MP Hamid Reza Katouzian has stated that Mohsen Rohulamini’s only fault was to Ahmadinejad and called the killing of dissidents by the government ugly and shameful. This is while another MP Ali Motaher – who has sided with reformists in the past weeks – asked Iran’s judiciary to give up the name of Mohsen’s killer

Resignation letter of the Minister of Culture has been rejected by Ahmadinejad.

Besides Intelligence Minister Ejaie, as many as 20 high-ranking officials from that ministry have been sacked

Mohsen Rezaie thanked judiciary chief Ayatollah Hashemi-Shahroudi for ordering a quick review of the cases of the detainees of the post-vote unrest in Iran

Several prominent Shi’ite clerics are going to make a decision about leaving Iran and settling in Najaf, Iraq. It is expected that the final decision will be made within days.

Shahroudi’s 1-week deadline to make a decision on the prisoners.
Head of the investigation organization ordered to report on the detainees & detention centres to head of judiciary.

Khamenei ordered Kahrizak detention center to be closed

140 prisoners released today. Shadi Sadr is released.

Hashemi Rafsanjani stated in a meeting with faculty members of a university in Tehran denied there was a power struggle in the nation
Ayatollah Montazeri has released a statement that expresses concern over the current state of affairs. He also applauded the efforts made by various people to resolve the current state of turmoil. It has been also confirmed that Ayatollah Montazeri has met with Ayatollah Mousavi Ardabeli and Ayatollah Shabiri Zanjani

Karoubi: We must try to keep the Islamic Republic.

Islamic Regime Overthrown رژیم متلاشی شد

Front page of Kayhan daily newspaper the day after collapse of the Islamic Regime in Iran. Kayhan was a pro-regime newspaper.
It was only 30 years ago that Etellaat newspaper had the same format announcing the end of Shah’s dictatorship.

I am not a graphic designer and did this with limited tools and knowledge. (and yes I caught the typo later)

Mr. President: Told you so!

by David ET on Jul.07, 2009, under Uncategorized

Last week vice president Joe Biden was sent to ABC news to report that the Obama administration “misread how bad the economy was” and that the reported 9.5 percent unemployment rate is “much too high”, considering the administration had predicted unemployment would stay below 8 percent with its entire stimulus plan”.  After ALL this was supposed to be about “jobs, jobs and more jobs”!

Last week it was also reported that large firms such as Citibank etc. who were beneficiary of billions of taxpayer handouts are still as weak as they have ever been and after ALL the government may have to let some fail. It was also reported that many of the US states including California are on the verge of being bankrupt, Housing data were also nothing to cheer about and that the US forces were starting to leave Iraq just to continue with new US interventionism in Afghanistan and with the money that we do not have!  Let’s also not forget that despite all the taxpayers money that was thrown at the car makers, GM still ended up filling bankruptcy and Ford is reported to be very weak.

Four Months ago in an article titled ”Mr. Obama: Tear down this wall” I warned
“This printing of billions of green paper out of thin air, this policy of borrowing billions more to maintain a wasteful failed economic system ” and the bail out of failed corporations and banks “will only lengthen the painful suffering of millions of people resulting in the eventual collapse of dollar”

I wrote that Obama administration should “stop feeding the TOP of the pyramid hoping that the thieves will pass it on to THE PEOPLE.” I wrote “The writing is already on the “wall”. See where the billions that we already have allocated have gone?! Where are the new jobs? Where are the new loans? “

In a series of article I wrote a whole lot more and I even made some introductory proposal on how to get out of the mess. I very much encourage you to read them again 4 months later  (http://www.iranian.com/main/blog/david-et/mr-obama-tear-down-wall) and (http://www.iranian.com/main/blog/david-et/obanomics-print-green-and-spend ). [Also see Daily Kos:http://www.dailykos.com/user/David%20Etebari) Considering that I was coming out of campaigning for Obama, the reactions to my views by some Obama zealots on Daily Kos and other sites were not too kind and some others just said give him a chance and that we should wait and see what happens to which I replied no we shouldn’t wait, what is wrong today will go even more wrong tomorrow.

Things are not any better yet. The stimulus money that was borrowed from us and the future generations will eventually finish and President Obama will ask for more and the final result will remain to be the same. But it is still not way too late  to “change” this failing course but sadly after confessing, Mr. vice president last week continued with these words: “ but we are now only about 120 days into the recovery package….we believe it is the right package given the circumstances we’re in.”

Meanwhile I continue to claim that the current (same old) approach will not “change” the outcome but it will only delay it, just to be faced with even worse. Meanwhile once again we heard the words “we misread”, same thing that we have been hearing again and again for the past few years but from different mouths and different sides.

In March I also wrote that some of us have been watching for the past few years “
the deck of gambling cards fall one after another and while the government, the Wall Street, the professional analysts, the CEO’s, the Congressmen and Senators of BOTH parties, Fed Chairman’s and many people kept denying the inevitable. “

To participate in a poll that I created click here

results are almost even so far! Note that Daily Kos is a democratic party site.

Do you think the current government economic plans will save the economy?
